A HARDWARE store has adopted a drastic measure to curb crippling retail theft.
The store is situated in San Francisco and has been battling rising losses resulting from native crime.
Fredericksen Hardware & Paint is a store that has been round since 1896.
To curb theft, the shop determined to have its staff escort buyers as they purchased items.
"We actually weren't given a selection," stated the shop's manager Sam Black to Fox affiliate KTVU.
"I mean, we have now to maintain our staff protected and our clients protected."
"Once they're coming in to do snatch and grabs, that was the ultimate, ultimate straw," he concluded.
Black has been working within the retailer for the past 20 years and claims he's never seen as much crime as he sees now.
"It's a shock," he stated.
"I imply, the dollar quantities are fairly vital, and with the tools and now we're getting snatch-and-grabs once they take entire displays, so it's getting sort of harmful for the workers and the purchasers."
