A FORMER sheriff deputy has been sentenced to 20 years in jail for his position within the brutal and racist gang attack on two Black men final yr.

Moments before his sentence, the 31-year-old disgraced former deputy stood at the defense desk next to his lawyer and stated he hated himself for the acts he committed towards victims Michael Jenkins and Eddie Parker.
"I'm not a person of excuses. I fought exhausting with myself ever since that night time," Elward stated in courtroom.
"A lot of people are solely mad once they get caught… I've to reside each night time with what I've seen and what I've achieved," he added before he asked the decide to deal with the victims immediately.
"Mr. Jenkins, I see you each day and every night time. I'm so doggone sorry," the disgraced deputy stated.

"I'm so sorry that I brought about that. I hate myself for it. I hate that I gave you that. I accept all duty."
Jenkins nodded at Elward's apology whereas Parker stood up and replied, "We forgive you, man."
BRUTAL ATTACK
The horrific assault occurred on January 24, 2023, when a gaggle of six officers with the Rankin County Sheriff's Workplace burst into a home with no search warrant after receiving reviews of two Black males dwelling with a lady and seeing suspicious conduct.
The house belonged to a lady whom Parker was serving to to deal with, in line with court paperwork.
As soon as inside, the six officers, who have been a part of the group that referred to as themselves the "Good Squad," handcuffed the lads and tortured them.
Prosecutors stated the group dubbed themselves the "Good Squad" due to their willingness to make use of excessive drive and not report it.

Federal prosecutors filed fees towards the six "Goon Squad" deputies, Elward, Brett McAlpin, Christian Dedmon, Daniel Opdyke, Joshua Hartfield, and ringleader Jeffrey Middleton, 46.
The six deputies pleaded responsible in August 2023 to costs of conspiracy towards rights, deprivation of rights underneath shade of regulation, conspiracy to impede justice, and obstruction of justice.
Decide Tom Lee branded the previous deputies' actions "egregious and despicable" and stated a "sentence at the prime of the guidelines vary" is justified.
Middleton was sentenced to 17 and a half years on Tuesday.
"I made some very poor, life-changing selections. They have been morally and legally improper," Middleton stated in courtroom.
"I will by no means forgive myself for failing to protect innocent victims and my family."
Middleton did not take a look at the victims or their families throughout his apology.
Elward and Middleton have been also ordered to pay $79,500 in restitution to the victims.
The four remaining "Good Squad" members will probably be sentenced on Wednesday and Thursday.
TRAUMATIZED
The lawyer for Parker and Jenkins, Malik Shabazz, read statements on their behalf, saying his shoppers have been too traumatized to speak in courtroom.
"I never thought a night hanging out with associates would virtually value me my life. I am harm. I am damaged," Shabazz stated on behalf of Jenkins.
"They tried to take my manhood from me. They did some unimaginable issues to me, and the consequences will linger for the rest of my life.
Parker stated that the actions of the six former cops "severely impacted and scarred" him.
"I don't know if I'll ever have the ability to sleep at night time," Shabazz stated on Parker's behalf.
"I worry I might be attacked again and even killed. The humiliation and embarrassment from the sexual assault is just too great for me to talk about.
"Subsequently, I am in remedy now and in the future."
In his impression assertion, Parker stated he didn't assume Middleton was sorry for his actions.
